The Teutonic Order active in Gemert again?
Yes, since 2014, the Teutonic Order, officially “The Order of the House of Saint Mary of the Teutons in Jerusalem” named, active again in Gemert. This under the name of “The Order of the House of Saint Mary of the Germans in Jerusalem”.
The direct reason was a request from “The Brothers van Limburg Festival Nijmegen” to participate in the festival. This request resulted in our first activity.
During the “Brothers of Limburg Festival” in Nijmegen, two of us had our first try-out. A great place to experiment and shape things. We then started as a small group with the Commander of the Teutonic Order in Gemert, his squire Count St. Jop, and the deaf-mute servant Martinus. Subsequently, we learned a lot in various locations to perfect the performance.
From the outset, it was clear that we wanted to make the combination with “the Teutonic Order”, the Gemert associations, the castle, and everything connected to it. We want to be as authentic as possible; everything visible must fit the era.
The German Order Gemert wants to make the history of the German Order in Gemert, from 1200 to 1794, visible again in the village.
